Cranberry Apple Chutney

A sweet and tart lightly spiced classic.

  • 3 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 apples, cored, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, plus more to taste
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 cup water, if needed

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan on the stovetop.   Bring to a low simmer over medium low heat, until apples and berries have broken down and begin to form a sauce-like mixture.  Add water if it starts to stick on the bottom to prevent scorching.
  2. The cranberries can vary widely in tartness, so taste and adjust sugar as needed.  You may need to add up to a 1/2 cup.
